The previous Mazda CX-9 is equipped with a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine that cranks out 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. In contrast, the new 2024 Mazda CX-90, offers two powertrain options, starting with the base turbocharged 3.3-liter six-cylinder engine cranking out 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, a plug-in hybrid version is available, which combines a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, creating a total output of 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

Chassis

One of the most notable differences between the two Mazda SUVs is their chassis layout. While the Mazda CX-9 features a transverse engine setup, the Mazda CX-90 adopts a longitudinal engine layout, which offers improved handling. Despite this shift, both models come standard with all-wheel-drive for optimal performance in a variety of driving conditions.

Interior and Cabin Technology

The 2024 Mazda CX-90 improves the cabin of the 2023 Mazda CX-9 by offering more space, with the option to accommodate eight passengers. Additionally, the cabin of the 2024 Mazda CX-90 boasts a more modern infotainment system, including a 12.3-inch display screen and digital gauge cluster.
