MAZDA Service Tips: What to Do When You Get a Flat Tire

September 21st, 2023 by

As flat tire repair experts at our Med Center Mazda service center, our technicians understand that flat tires can happen when you least expect them. It can come in handy to understand what you should do in the case of a flat tire, and our technicians are happy to share our tips to help.

Find a Safe Spot

The moment you realize you have a flat tire, the first step is to stay calm and maintain control of your vehicle. Safely pull over to the side of the road, ensuring that you’re a safe distance away from traffic. Put your hazard lights on to avoid other drivers.

Gather Your Tools

Your Mazda car should be equipped with a spare tire, a jack, and a lug wrench. Locate these tools in your trunk and prepare to use them. If you’re not familiar with how they work, consult your car’s owner’s manual.

Replace the Flat Tire

If you have confidence that you can replace the tire on your own, start by using the jack to lift your car off the ground, ensuring that it’s stable and secure under a solid metal part of the frame. Remove the lug nuts with the lug wrench and take off the flat tire. Carefully install the spare tire and tighten the lug nuts by hand as much as possible.

Lower Your Car and Tighten Lug Nuts

Lower your car down onto the ground by using the jack and use the lug wrench to securely tighten the lug nuts.

Check Tire Pressure

Finally, make sure that the spare tire has proper tire pressure before driving away. Remember, if you’re driving on a temporary spare, or “donut,” you have about 50 miles of driving on it, so schedule a replacement as soon as possible.
